NC Maritime Museum - Southport Branch

Model ships of all types and era's are on display in one of the most eclectic presentations in any maritime museum. Pirate ships, whaling ships, schooners, clippers, passenger ships, you name it, it's probably there. Although the collection is large there are still new models being added all the time as the collection grows in size and diversity. The museum also has a display called "River Pilots, Rescues and Aids to Navigation" and there is a 9 foot model shrimpboat net on display. Sometimes the artisan is in the museum and if so he'll be happy to pass net knitting skills along to you.

The research library has an amazing amount of material on the region to study including videos of pelicans, pirates and shipwrecks that you're welcome to explore as individuals or groups. The gift shop offers the usual oceanic offerings with a variety of small toys, souvenirs, books and post cards. Shipwrecks, pirates and the Civil War history all come to life under one roof in Southport and is one stop the entire family will enjoy.

The North Carolina Maritime Museum in Southport is located at 116 North Howe Street. You can visit their website for more information: North Carolina Maritime Museum - Southport Branch
