About this Property
"Chris's Cabana" 1317 Swordfish Ln suite 2 is a pet AND people friendly summer duplex managed by Dale and Salt Water Real Estate and is the ideal beach location to bring the ENTIRE family, paws and ALL! This 2nd floor two bed/ two bath duplex is directly in the middle of both Carolina and Kure Beaches and is a long walk or short drive from both downtown Carolina Beach, Kure Beach, and everything they have to offer.
Pleasure Island (Carolina Beach, Kure Beach, and Fort Fisher) has become a RAPIDLY increasing vacation (and full-time!) destination for the East coast and beyond for many reasons. Because we are in fact a true island, our "max. capacity" and restricted parking options will always limit the number of visitors who can both rent on and visit our Island simultaneously! Although always relative, this provides a bit more elbow room and open space than average for those looking for more “distancing” and privacy than some bigger public beaches. It’s a family-aligned beach with a touch of everything one might be looking for! It’s an AMAZING place to visit, live, and never leave!
The suite lies directly in the middle of both Carolina and Kure Beaches and is a long walk or short drive from downtown Carolina Beach and everything that is has to offer. In Carolina Beach you’ve got the boardwalk, eateries, and local stores of all kinds. If you like adventures, the marina is also there where you can take an offshore fishing trip, diving excursion, or event boat out for a sunset sail. Camping more your thing? Bring the 4X4 and drive (and camp) on the beach at Freeman Park, located on the North End of the island. You can also head down to Kure Beach and fish directly off their fishing pier compete with bait, tackles, and more! The Carolina Beach Lake is close by, hosting a weekly Farmer’s Market every Saturday, FIREWORKS every Thursday, and outdoor summer movies on Sunday’s (on a enormous inflatable screen in the middle of the lake!). We welcome you to sit back, relax and savor yourselves because that's exactly what the beach is for! * (due to Covid, please be prepared for periodic deviations from our usually scheduled events).
These suites are a mixture of the original “period” construction and old-world appeal, a kiss of shabby-chic modernity, and today’s technology because hey, there’s got to be something for everybody! Each suite has its own distinct traits, quirks, and characteristics. Above all else, it should feel like your “home away from home” while visiting with us on our Island!
The entry to this 2 bedroom, 2 bath suite opens up into a huge, freshly furnished family room combined with an open dining area and entirely equipped kitchen (stove+oven, refrigerator). The kitchen is outfitted will all the basic cooking and dining silverware one can expect (plates, bowls, cups, silverware, etc.). In addition, there is a microwave, toaster, coffer maker and blender ready to help make yourself at home (while on Vacay!). Courtesy organic soap and shampoo are left in the bathroom of each suite as well as a (1) starter roll of TP, a (1) garbage bag, dish soap, and a sponge in each kitchen. *It is important to note that it is NOT an owner’s job to provide personal family items for guests. From toiletries and linens, to community food stuffs and condiments it is ESPECIALLY important during this current climate for any used items of another to be discarded before our new guests arrive to ensure an optimally hygienic space
The unit's TWO QUEEN beds consist's of either a plush luxury bed or a new encased 8” memory foam/cooling gel composition bed because we want all of our guests to be comfortable when it comes time to recharge. Remember, linens are NOT supplied to keep your prices low. You can bring them from home with you, buy them locally, or rent them (refer to Oceanside Linens & Units).
There is one intelligent TV in each suite to utilize one's personal subscriptions (such as Netflix or Hulu) along with a WIFI computer connection for when it's time to sit back and appreciate some movies or shows after a long day at the beach! Bring a Fire Stick, Apple TV, Laptop w/ HDMI cable or another such casting device if looking to ensure all the tech amenities from home are available during your stay!
The outdoor shower is located on the lower right of the building to help get that sand off of those toes!
The SUITE: Guests have full access to their own private SUITE (never shared) along with their own private outdoor space inside the carport area and modest backyard.
PARKING: Each guest will have access to (2) TWO assigned parking spaces (please look for the respective carport matching your respective suite #). The chain separating the living space and driveway will remain at all times :)
Pleasure Island is a coastal barrier island in Southeastern North Carolina, USA just south of the City of Wilmington. Pleasure Island is located within Federal Point Township, in New Hanover County. The coastal resort towns of Carolina Beach and Kure Beach, as well as the annexed communities of Wilmington Beach and Hanby Beach are located on the island.
The building itself is roughly two blocks from the nearest beach access. The property is a long walk or short drive from downtown Carolina Beach with its stores, activities and dining and is equidistant to the smaller, but just as appealing Downtown Kure Beach with its fishing pier and aquarium. There are fireworks during the summer every Thursday nighttime, movies at the lake each Sunday nighttime, and local fairs around the lake each Saturday morning. Carolina Beach is a mix of friendly locals, snowbirds, and visitors all looking to escape the inland and enjoy the sand, surf, and sun. We really have an amazing community!
Carolina Beach and the surrounding neighborhoods offer an array of sights and activities to enjoy while here. Some of these examples are (but not limited to) a subtle beach hike through Carolina Beach State Park, Fishing on the Kure Beach Pier, kayaking to one of the many islands surrounding the Intracoastal Waterway, watching canons blast during a historical reenactment at the Fort Fisher State Historic Site, or petting some Sting Rays at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. This doesn’t even include the aweing scenery of Airlie Gardens, and our very own battleship (USS NC) in Wilmington! Perhaps more calming and less “adventure” is your speed? Our own local Brewery (Good Hops) along with a round of Frisbee golf may be what the doctor ordered!
There isn’t anywhere or anything on our Island that isn’t accessible with foot power. Downtown Carolina Beach has multiple vendors such as Tony Silvagni’s Surf School @ 308 S Lake Park Blvd, Carolina Beach, NC 28428 (bicycles, paddleboards, surfboards, kayaks, chairs, and umbrellas) for rent as an alternative to walking or driving. There's Sun Fun Units @1204 N Lake Park Blvd Unit F Carolina Beach, NC 28428. You can catch a Ferry to Southport in Kure Beach @ 2422 Fort Fisher Blvd S Kure Beach which leads to another ferry to Bald Head Island where NO CARS are allowed at all!
After all, you won’t catch many locals going OTB! (Over The Bridge). Everything you need is right here!

How to Save Money on Your Rental
- Find the tourism bureau where you want to visit. Most established tourism bureaus supply tourism guide books with deals for rental properties, restaurants and activities. Search for these guides and promotional books, because this allows vacationers to enjoy those attractions with a typically considerable discounted.
- Are you able to switch your trip dates? The off-peak shoulder seasons will offer you fantastic rates on daily rentals.
- Are you a military veteran? Quite a few management companies provide discounted rates to vets and active-duty military. Be sure to ask vacation rental company to see if your travelling crew qualifies for a discounted rate.
- Is there a particular experience that you are mainly looking forward to ? Be sure to prioritize your proximity to the activities and points of interest you are most interested in.
- Management companies and individual home owners commonly offer their customers the opportunity to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the basic stay rate, provides buyers reimbursement of their vacation expenses for any missed due to medical related emergencies or storms, as well as ensuing extra hurricane evacuation costs or expenses, like an unplanned hotel stay or extra gas.
General Rental Information
Newcomers are often times shocked at the range and selection of weekly vacation rentals available in the Southport area. With such a big selection, vacationers are certain to discover a rental home that fits their wishes and price range.
The majority of rental homes in Southport are privately owned and many are represented by established local rental management agencies. Property management companies are liked by owners mainly because they coordinate the advertising and operations..
Below are great tips and tricks to help you understand the vacation rental search and booking process.
Searching for and booking the perfect vacation property:
Do you think ""Chris's Cabana"; A pup friendly duplex!" is the best vacation property for your upcoming getaway? Look over this check list to ensure it fits your needs.
The Earlier, The Better
Like many renowned vacation spots, In Southport the best vacation homes are booked early. For the best selection, start your planning and search 6-12 months in advance of your vacation. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years are excellent times to find and book your rental..
Decide on a Village and Time
Start by determining which specific area of Southport you'd like to visit, and the approximate dates you'll be vacationing.
Bedrooms and Bed Sizes Matter
Keep a list of attendees. How many beds and bedrooms will you need? Be aware that a lot of homes advertise maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in the home's living room. You will need to determine what is acceptable for your family. Precise descriptions of bedrooms and beds are commonly available online. Otherwise, speak to the property owner before you reserve the home.
What Are You Willing to Spend?
Many rental homes are advertised with a cost range. Determine the cost for your desired week. It may be at the high end of the range. Make certain to get cost-sharing commitments from loved ones before booking an expensive rental property. One member of your family must be responsible for collecting repayments and agreeing to responsibility for the whole rental payment at time of reservation.
What home features is the family looking for? Do you simply desire a home with a swimming pool, hot tub or volleyball court? Does the unit need to be beach front, in town, or in close proximity to night life? Will the unit have bicycles and beach toys for use during your stay? Make a list of "necessities and wishes" from your group to help narrow your search to the perfect rental.
Sometimes the older generation has trouble with stairways. If wheel chair accessibility, elevators, pool lifts or other special devices are required, factor that into your search. The majority of rental home listings will include a list of amenities.
Don't forget to include your best friend! Although a number of vacation rentals permit pets or animals, guidelines and charges vary per property. Type of animal, size and dog breeds could be limited. Ensure that you study agreements and contracts carefully. Extra charges may apply when animals are added. Ask questions *well before* you book!
Searching the Internet
When the area, travel dates and family members are decided, search multiple sources for the very best vacation rental selection. In addition to Homeaway, VRBO and Tripadvisor, we suggest searching Google for "Southport local vacation homes" for local vacation home management companies. Local companies will have a unique assortment of vacation rentals daily and weekly.
Negotiate the Price
When you've found your dream rental, make sure your trip dates are available.
Some rental home owners will negotiate prices, and some will not. If the rate isn't negotiable, the number of nights may be. This is more effective during the off-peak season when many homes sit empty.
Read the Entire Agreement
Find out which of the following is included in your quoted rate:

- Key exchange

Reserve your Rental
As soon as you believe you've found "the one", start the booking process. You will likely be required to submit a security deposit at time of reservation.

- Ask questions. You could need instructions for a fireplace, TV or spa tub. Get in touch with your home manager. They are there to help. A quick phone call eliminates many head aches.
- Be considerate of the local community. . Remember the golden rule and treat others the same way you'd like to be treated by vacationers next to your home.
- Ask a local. Natives can often point you in the right direction.
- Don't forget to protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the vacation home locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
At the end of your stay
- Make sure you've packed all of your personal belongings. Sweep each room in the home for forgotten items. Inspect bathrooms, the garage, cabinets, porches, the swimming pool area, and anywhere else your personal property might "hide".
- As soon as everything is out, begin a walk-through of the rental home to verify no property damage occurred during your stay. If possible, do this walk-out inspection with the property owner present. If the property owner is not available, make sure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did you love your vacation rental? Most vacation rental web sites request feedback after your stay . Property owners and rental managers will thank you for positive reviews.
