Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Wilmington rental home experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the largest rental home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Southport restaurants and activities.
  • In the Southport area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Some owners offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Look for your local Southport area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.

Filter your search:

  • Begin by choosing potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Historic home in downtown Wilmington, NC has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your group.
  • Does your group require special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • To make sure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas during check in. Speak to the host immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
  • When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a excellent stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
