Rental home tips:

Get the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To get the best value, consider changing your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • In the Southport area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies supply Southport area visitor guides which include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Planning and picking the right Southport rental:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Just a walk from the Beach has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the host before you reserve the home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • If there's a particular Southport beach you love, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • During check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to compel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
