Leaning Lorelei is a beautiful 120-year-old bungalow located in the heart of Downtown Wilmington, only a 15 min walk/5 min drive to the Riverfront. Located across the street from a park and just two blocks to local coffee stores, dining, and shopping. Recently remodeled and full of gorgeous architectural details, such as tall ceilings, upsized windows, and original wood floors. 2BR/1BA, 2 work desks, 2 car private driveway, modern appliances and furnishings, completely equipped kitchen.

Located in Wilmington's Castle Street Arts District, this turn of the century (the 1900 one) bungalow was originally constructed in 1903, the same year the Wright Brothers made their historic flight, and has been made new for 2023. The bungalow is an eclectic mix of new and old, blending broad renovations and upgrades with old world appeal and character.

Visiting Leaning Lorelei is like taking a trip back in time. As you enter into the enormous central hall you will immediately notice the tall ceilings, original wood floors, and an abundance of upsized windows which fill the space with natural light. That theme carries over into the two bedrooms, each equipped with a desk ideal for remote work. The front bedroom even has the original coal burning fireplace (although no longer functional) and ties into the fireplace in the living room (also inoperable). The full bathroom is packed with charm – you will appreciate the clawfoot tub/shower combo with a floor-to-ceiling tile surround, as well as the refinished antique sink vanity. Several stained glass windows carry the whimsical nature of the home all the way through the back door, leading you to an outdoor dining area and sizable fenced yard.

The bones of the home remain intact (including that old home lean!), otherwise everything is new as of 2022. Features include 2 car private driveway, fenced in yard and back patio, new furnishings, Fiber internet, Intelligent TV with all streaming services (use your own login), record player with constructed-in Bluetooth speaker, board games, washer and dryer, 100% cotton linens and towels, USB charging hubs and sound machines in both bedrooms, and a well outfitted kitchen that comes with all the essentials (e.g., plates/bowls/cups/silverware, pots/pans/baking sheets, knife block, cutting boards, microwave, toaster oven, blender, drip coffee maker, coffee, filters, tea, etc.). Other amenities include hair dryer, iron and iron board, and shampoo/conditioner/body wash.

Savor coffee in the morning or wine in the evening as you relax on your rocking chair front porch overlooking Robert Strange Park. The park, located directly across the street from the bungalow, has well maintained tennis/pickleball courts (open to the public), a community pool ($3/day/adult, $1/day/kid), playground, Fit for Fun Center (kids play place), and an adult exercise center. You will find four pickleball paddles at the bungalow for your use.

Kids are welcome, but the home is not childproof (100+ year old uneven hardwoods, brick hearth fireplaces, raised transitions between rooms, etc.). Pack ‘n play and high chair supplied.

Our top Rental home booking tips:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • In the Southport area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in Wilmington. Reserve your Southport rental property in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Look for your local Southport visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain discounts for local tours and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Select a group lead, select your dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Leaning Lorelei: Light & Airy Downtown Cottage has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before you book the rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your group.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a terrific time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
