About this Property
“New Leash on Life" a pet AND people friendly summer bungalow managed by Dale and Salt Water Real Estate and is the ideal beach location to bring the ENTIRE family, paws and ALL! This ground floor two bed/ one bath SFR is just two blocks from our sandy shores, across the street from the ICW, and is a moderate walk to downtown CB, and all the sea sights, sounds, and experiences you are looking for!
Pleasure Island has become a RAPIDLY increasing holiday destination for the entirety of the East coast and beyond for many reasons. Because we are in fact a true island, “overcrowding” isn’t in of itself a massive issue. Limited parking and available housing will always create a calming “max capacity” that will always give a peaceful (and healthy) occupancy level and ambience that, despite the “hordes”, will always leave generous complimentary space for those looking for a bit more “distancing” and privacy. It’s also what is making the real unit market shoot through the roof! It’s an AMAZING place to visit, live, and never leave!
The suite is located in the heart of Carolina Beach and a moderate walking distance to downtown and everything that is has to offer. In Carolina Beach you’ve got the boardwalk, eateries, and local stores of all kinds. If you like adventures, the marina is also there where you can take an offshore fishing trip, diving excursion, or event boat out for a sunset sail. Camping more your thing? Come with the 4X4 and drive (and camp) on the beach at Freeman Park, located on the North End of the island. You can also head down to Kure Beach and fish directly off their fishing pier compete with bait, tackles, and more! The Carolina Beach Lake is close by, hosting a weekly Farmer’s Market every Saturday, FIREWORKS every Thursday, and outdoor summer movies on Sunday’s (on a sizable inflatable screen in the middle of the lake!). We welcome you to sit back, relax and savor yourselves because that's exactly what the beach is for! * (due to Covid, please be prepared for periodic deviations from our usually scheduled events).
These suites are a mixture of the original “period” construction and old-world appeal, a kiss of shabby-chic modernity, and today’s technology because hey, there’s got to be something for everybody! Each suite has its own distinct traits, quirks, and characteristics. Above all else, it should feel like your “home away from home” while visiting with us on our Island!
The entry to this 2 bedroom/1 bath suite opens up into a generous, freshly decorated family room combined with an open dining area and kitchen. Courtesy organic soap and shampoo are left in the bathroom of each suite as well as a (1) starter roll of TP, a (1) garbage bag, dish soap, and a sponge in each kitchen. *It is important to note that it is NOT an owner’s job to give personal family items for visitors. From toiletries and linens, to community food stuffs and condiments, It is ESPECIALLY important during this current climate for any used items of another to be discarded before our new visitors arrive to ensure an optimally hygienic space
There's ONE KING, ONE QUEEN, and ONE FULL + TWIN XL bunk bed on site because we want all of our visitors to be comfortable when it comes time to recharge. Remember, linens are NOT supplied in order to keep our costs low. You can bring them from home with you, buy them locally, or rent them (refer to Low Tide Linens & Units). If renting, please let Low Tide know that you are a guest of SWRE as they will give you with an additional 10% discount!
There is a TV (with approx. 25 channels through the Charter Spectrum cable service or application) along with a WIFI computer connection for when it's time to sit back and appreciate some movies or shows after a long day at the beach! Come with a Fire Stick, Apple TV, Laptop w/ HDMI cable or other such casting device if looking to ensure all of the tech amenities from home are available during your stay!
We equip each suite with its own books, games, and misc. accessories to help cover the basis for our visitors to enjoy themselves in rain or shine. Sometimes however, these items are removed from the suite and not replaced and we do not realize it (tsk tsk!). If you notice something we’ve bragged about missing please let us know!
The BACKYARD: The backyard is intended for both units (there is a rear bungalow onsite) to be able to congregate, BBQ, play, and have a blast. Please do NOT let your family dogs and cats loose in the back. Feel complimentary to utilize the front yard, side yard, or any number of striking neighborhood walks to help your furry children relieve themselves.
The SUITE: Guests have full access to their own private SUITE (never shared) along with a respective outdoor space, patio, or balcony. Each suite can vary slightly in archetype but what’s private for each guest or is a common area for all to share IS effortlessly recognizable.
PARKING: Each guest will have access to (2) two parking spaces. The main bungalow should park side by side to the left of the drive. The modest rear bungalow should park one in front of the other IN the drive.
The building itself is two blocks away from the sea, across the street form the ICW, and roughly eleven blocks from down town Carolina Beach with its stores, activities and dining. There are fireworks during the summer every Thursday nighttime, Movies at the lake each Sunday nighttime, and local fairs around the lake each Saturday morning (refer to carolinabeach.org for additional info!). Carolina Beach is a mix of friendly locals, snowbirds, and visitors all looking to hideaway the inland and enjoy the sand, surf, and sun. We really have an impressive community!
Carolina Beach and the surrounding neighborhoods offer an array of sights and activities to enjoy while here. Some of these examples are (but not limited to) a subtle beach hike through Carolina Beach State Park, Fishing on the Kure Beach Pier, kayaking to one of the many islands surrounding the Intracoastal Waterway, watching canons blast during a historical reenactment at the Fort Fisher State Historic Site, or petting some Sting Rays at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. This doesn’t even include the aweing scenery of Airlie Gardens, and our very own battleship (USS NC) in Wilmington! Perhaps more appealing and less “experience” is your speed? Our own local Brewery (Good Hops) along with a round of Frisbee golf may be what the doctor ordered!
There isn’t anywhere or anything on our Island that isn’t accessible with foot power. Downtown Carolina Beach has a number of vendors (such as Pleasure Island Units @ 2 N Lake Park Blvd Carolina Beach NC 28428 (golf carts) and Tony Silvagni’s Surf School @ 107 Charlotte ave Carolina Beach NC 28428 (bicycles, paddleboards, surfboards, kayaks) for rent as an alternative to walking or driving. You can catch a Ferry to Southport in Kure Beach @ 2422 Fort Fisher Blvd S Kure Beach which leads to another ferry to Bald Head Island where NO CARS are allowed at all! General Rental Home Tricks & Tips
You might be shocked to find out how many rental properties are available at your destination. With such a big selection, vacationers are certain to come across a vacation home that meets their desires and budget.
Vacation homes are commonly owner operated or managed by rental management companies. Property management companies leverage scale, staff and experience to provide effortless operational administration on behalf of the owner..
Seasoned Southport vacationers have discovered a number of tips and tricks throughout the years with regards to renting rental properties, however most newcomers will be delighted to learn that many of these "methods" are in plain sight, if you understand where they should search.
Searching for and reserving the right vacation property:
Do you think ""New Leash on Life" Pet AND people friendly summer cottage" is the perfect rental home for your next vacation? Look over this checklist to confirm it fits all of your needs.
Search Early and Frequently
Southport rental homes book several months (and up to a year) in advance. Reserving your rental 6-12 months in advance is recommended, whenever possible. Holiday gatherings can be a great time for groups to plan their Summer family vacations..
Choose your Area and Travel Week
Start by choosing which particular area of Southport you want to visit, and the determine dates you'll be vacationing.
Decide on a Size
How many family members are joining your getaway? Bear in mind that a lot of rentals advertise maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in the living room. It is important to figure out what is suitable for the family. Precise descriptions of bedrooms and beds are typically available on the internet. If not, get in touch with the property manager before you reserve the home.
Determine Your Budget
Will the preferred rental property suit your budget during that popular Summer week? If multiple groups or family members are sharing the cost, ensure each group understands their obligations and has agreed to a maximum they are willing to pay. Generally, a single person in the group will be responsible for making the whole reservation and recovering each person's share.
Its All About Amenities
What property features is your group searching for? Is a screened deck a necessity? Do you wish to be away from it all, or close to a city setting? Are sheet sets included with the rental, or do you need to bring your own? Make a list of prioritized "necessities and desires" from your company to help narrow your search to the most suitable rental.
Do individual people in your crew have specialized needs? Make sure to remember and inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs..
Take the Dog
Are you or other members of the party traveling with a furry companion? While a number of vacation homes permit animal friends, rules and costs fluctuate per property. Many restrictions may eliminate a potential vacation property. Read your contract very carefully! Charges may apply when pets are added. Ask questions *prior to* you book!
Searching the Internet
Several websites exist to match guests with rental owners.. In addition to Homeaway, VRBO and Tripadvisor, we recommend searching Google for "Southport local rental properties" for local rental home management companies. Local rental management companies take pride in a superior vacation experience.
Negotiate the Price
When you've found the rentalhome of your dreams, check to confirm your trip dates are available.
Although not true for all properties, many owners and property managers will negotiate rates. If the price isn't negotiable, the number of nights might be. Negotiating rates is most effective during the off-peak season when many homes sit empty.
Study The Agreement
You really should know which services are included:
- Electric bills
- WIFI Access
- Long Distance Calls
- Pool and hot tub heating
- Cable and pay-per-view TV
- Cleaning services and housekeeping
- Trash Pickup (and which day?)
- Maintenance (get a phone number)
- Key exchange
- Parking Space
Be sure that your price includes all taxes and fees.
Cancelling your Rental Home
Be sure you understand the cancellation policy prior to reserving. Rental management companies and individual property owners commonly offer their clients the choice to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which frequently costs between 1% - 5% of your standard rental rate, provides guests with reimbursement of their vacation costs (and subsequent rental property costs) for any days missed a result of personal medical related emergencies or weather, and additionally hurricane evacuation expenses, such as a unexpected motel stay or extra gas.
Book your Rental Home
After you think you've found "the one", begin the booking process. Bear in mind that most rental agreements require a significant rental deposit and/or security deposit to safeguard the property owner.
Know Who to Call
Don't forget to get the manager's contact telephone number and entry/exit procedures for your vacation property. We suggest storing the contact's details in your phone and wallet.
Congratulations on booking your rental! You're on the way to a phenomenal vacation!
During your Stay
- Take pictures at your arrival. Record the condition of the rental property right away. We also recommend promptly getting in touch with the property manager with a report of any damages, along with your request for any required fixes. If there is a dispute about liability later, having the documented problems and contact attempts will be incredibly helpful.
- Should there be any ambiguity about parking, policies of the property, property access, pool functions, etc... we advise you ask the rental home manager immediately. A phone call can save several hours of trouble.
- Make sure to be a good next-door neighbor. . Remember the golden rule and treat others the same way you'd like to be treated by visitors next to your residence.
- Ask a local. Residents are a fantastic source of advice.
- Enjoy your stay! Don't forget to protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the home secured when you are away, just like you would at home.
At the end of your stay
- Double-check every space of the rental property to assure you've gathered all valuables.
- As soon as your things are all out, perform a walk-through of the rental to make sure no damage occurred in the course of your stay. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (this isn't always the case).. If the property manager is not available, make sure you take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have an enjoyable time? Nearly all rental home websites ask for testimonials after your stay . Rental owners and property managers will thank you for favorable ratings. If anything went wrong, we recommend being understanding but genuine with regards to experience. Top owners and managers will work very hard to fix the issue.
Learn from your Experience
Did they love their vacation? If everything was wonderful, next year's family vacation planning will be simple. Maybe the property wasn't ideal, and you will better recognize how to perfect your search for the next time.
