How to find the best Oak Island vacation property experience:

Get the most from your spending budget:

  • In the Southport area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Book your rental home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many management companies supply Southport area visitor guides which include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to select the best rental home in Oak Island:

  • Start by choosing trip dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Ivy Cottage: Dog-Friendly, Oceanfront Cottage with Fenced Yard has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible online. If not, call the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or might be applied to your agreement.
  • If there's a particular Southport attraction you long to visit, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of problems.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a great time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
