Why Hairy Crab? Walk the beach at nighttime & you may see Atlantic Ghost Crabs. They have hairy legs that wick moisture from the sand. Not only is the name fun & memorable but so will be your stay here.

This pretty bungalow is only 5 mins. from the beach and is located in the peaceful wooded section of Oak Island. Choose from one of 3 bedrooms, all with closets & dressers if you like to unpack. In the primary, there’s a king-sized bed with an ensuite bathroom & intelligent TV. The 2nd bedroom has a queen-sized bed, intelligent TV & desk (the spot to work or write postcards about your fun vacation). The 3rd bedroom shares the hall bath. This bedroom is the haven for kids with a set of twin bunkbeds. There is a huge array of interactive toys, games, books, & puzzles. Toys range from Legos to the shark chomping race game, Shark Mania! They’ll feel like they are already at the beach with the waves scattered on the walls. Lastly there is a convenient pull out twin bed in the family room.

One thing this home will be remembered for is the handsome art & the fun door & furnishings knobs. Play a game of who can find the Ship’s Wheel & Crabs! You’ll have the keys to Davey Jones’ Locker; now to find the locker… How many Crabs can you find in the décor?

For a surprise, open the cabinet beneath the intelligent tv in the living area that holds tons of beach reads. The living area has plenty of seating to watch your favorite shows or appreciate recalling the events of the day. The well-outfitted open kitchen has 3 seats at the bar for entertaining the prepare & appreciating dinner or a snack. The table in the kitchen can seat 2 or be expanded to seat 4. Perhaps you will take advantage of the outdoor table with umbrella for al fresco dining. Get additional flavor for your meal using the gas grille. For those who savor a drink, find a shaker & a blender with glasses for all.

The utility room just outside the backdoor homes a vast array of beach & yard games. Is your favorite Ladder Toss or Bocce Ball? Like to collect seashells? Find multiple shell bags for your treasures. Take all of them, the beach umbrella & chairs with you using the beach cart.

There’s even Veteran’s Park a short walk away to enjoy. Whether you fish, use the picnic shelter or just want to swing while watching the boats go by in the Intracoastal Waterway, it’s a spot not to be missed. Bursting with colorful flowers, the butterfly garden is the ideal spot for taking photos of your memorable day.

When you return from the beach, wash off the salt & sand in the Outdoor Shower with both hot & cold water. The Washer & Dryer are just inside the backdoor for conveniently dropping off swimsuits & towels.

Water, a Breeze & Fire are all earth elements you can take advantage of at this bungalow. With 2 benches & a Fire Pit, even in the summer it is ideal for calming with an evening glass of your favorite drink.

Remember, the best days end in sandy toes & salty hair. May you recall shells in your pockets & sand in your shoes when thinking of your vacation time in this bungalow. With the fun décor & a name like Hairy Crab, you’re sure to remember this bungalow.

Strategies to get the very best Southport rental home experience:

Getting the best rental home value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Southport area. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies supply Southport area travel guides which include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Finding the best rental in the Southport area:

  • Choose your dates and budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. 10% Off All Bookings made by May 31st - Dog Friendly w\/ Large Fenced in Backyard - Close to Beach has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before booking the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your . Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute is filed.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
