La Kumbala

La Kumbala is a chic little Mexican restaurant that’s found in the heart of Wilmington along Market Street. Offering a full menu of authentic and sometimes hard-to-find dishes, this Mexican food restaurant is garnering acclaim from Latin food fans who love tasting the real thing.

The menu at La Kumbala is fairly simply but wonderfully diverse, with a host of appetizers, authentic dishes, soups, sides, desserts, and special lunch combination meals. A far cry from the more familiar and Americanized Mex cuisine, this restaurant has a world of dishes that, for the most part, can’t be found anywhere else in Wilmington. For something truly unique, start a meal with the Pupusas – thicker small tortillas that are stuffed with cheeses, beans, and / or meat, or the Platano Maduro – fried ripe plantains with beans and sour cream. For an entrée, go for the fried chicken with plantains, the Carne Asada, or the Ceviche Mixto with fish, shrimp, squid, octopus, and scallops, or order a hearty bowl of slightly spicy beef, chicken or seafood soup, topped with fresh cilantro. All the fare has its own distinct taste and flavor, and when coupled with a side of plantains or saucy black beans, (or just an ice cold margarita), present a unique perspective on Latin fare to Wilmington’s Mexican food fans.
