Taqueria Los Portales

Bypass the chain Mexican restaurants and fast food joints, and head to this little hole-in-the-wall local favorite for fresh Mexican fare that’s incredibly budget friendly and always delicious. Located along the quiet Kerr Street in a surprisingly unpopulated section of Downtown Wilmington, Taqueria Los Portales is where the smart Wilmington residents go to appease a big craving for Mexican fare.

The atmosphere is a cross between a traditional Mexican restaurant and a college sports bar, with plenty of TVs and a large central bar that can be a popular spot on game days. The menus is just as unique, with a long list of familiar items and a host of more unique Mexican specialties that can be hard to come by. Hungry diners can try one of the big and bold combos that include burritos, tacos, and even tortas, or can opt for the signature tacos which are complemented with more than a dozen different fillings to choose from, including beef, chicken, pulled pork, Mexican sausage, shredded beef, and BBQ. There’s also a salsa/toppings bar that features a blend of fresh veggies, like cilantro, radishes and onions, as well as a range of mild to spicy sauces. Able to cater to any craving, and nicely unique and inexpensive Taqueria Los Portales will inspire any Mexican food fan to try something new.
