Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summer months are high season in Carolina Beach. Book your rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • In the Southport area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Southport visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have coupons for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Make a plan and choose your prefectrental:

  • Start by having your family choose date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. 2 Bedroom, 2 Bath Oceanfront Condo with pool has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before booking the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what is optimal for your vacation.
  • If there's a specific Southport destination you crave, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to propel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
