About this Property

General summary;

"Sand Dollar Suites" suite 1 managed by Dale and Salt Water Real may be just the home away from home you are looking for! "Sand Dollar Suites" suite 1 is a one-bedroom peaceful condo that's just steps from our sandy shores, a brief walk to downtown CB, and all the sea sights, sounds, and experiences you are looking for!

The space;

Pleasure Island has become a RAPIDLY increasing holiday destination for the entirety of the East coast and beyond for many reasons. Because we are in fact a true island, “overcrowding” isn’t in of itself a massive issue. Limited parking and available housing will always create a comfortable “max capacity” that will always give a calming (and healthy) occupancy level and mood that, despite the “hordes”, will always leave generous complimentary space for those looking for a bit more “distancing” and privacy. It’s also what is making the real unit market shoot through the roof! It’s an AMAZING place to visit, live, and never leave!

The suite is located in the heart of Carolina Beach and walking distance to downtown and everything that is has to offer. In Carolina Beach you’ve got the boardwalk, eateries, and local stores of all kinds. If you like adventures, the marina is also there where you can take an offshore fishing trip, diving excursion, or event boat out for a sunset sail. Camping more your thing? Come with the 4X4 and drive (and camp) on the beach at Freeman Park, located on the North End of the island. You can also head down to Kure Beach and fish directly off their fishing pier compete with bait, tackles, and more! The Carolina Beach Lake is close by, hosting a weekly Farmer’s Market every Saturday, FIREWORKS every Thursday, and outdoor summer movies on Sunday’s. We welcome you to sit back, relax and appreciate yourselves because that's exactly what the beach is for! * (due to Covid, please be prepared for periodic deviations from our usually scheduled events).

These suites are a mixture of the original “period” construction and old-world magic, a kiss of shabby-chic modernity, and today’s technology because hey, there’s got to be something for everybody! Each suite has its own distinct traits, quirks, and characteristics. Above all else, it should feel like your “home away from home” while visiting with us on our Island!

The entry to this 1 bedroom/1 bath suite opens up into a sizable, freshly decorated family room combined with an open dining area and completely supplied kitchen (stove+oven, refrigerator). The kitchen is outfitted will all of the basic preparing and dining silverware one can expect (plates, bowls, cups, silverware, etc.). In addition, there is a microwave, toaster, coffer maker and blender ready to help make yourself at home. Courtesy organic soap and shampoo are left in the bathroom of each suite as well as a (1) starter roll of TP, a (1) garbage bag, dish soap, and a sponge in each kitchen. *It is important to note that it is NOT an owner’s job to give personal family items for visitors. From toiletries and linens, to community food stuffs and condiments, It is ESPECIALLY important during this current climate for any used items of another to be discarded before our new visitors arrive to ensure an optimally hygienic space

Most bedroom beds There's ONE QUEEN/ONE FULL futon bed here) consist of a new encased 8” memory foam/cooling gel composition bed because we want all of our visitors to be appealing when it comes time to recharge. The pullout couches that can fit/support a memory foam pad are also accommodated with such! (Always bear in mind that a pullout couch/futon for a longer term tenant may/may not give ideal support!) Remember, linens are NOT included in order to keep our costs low. You can bring them from home with you, buy them locally, or rent them (refer to Low Tide Linens & Units). If renting, please let Low Tide know that you are a guest of SWRE as they will give you with an additional 10% discount!

There is a 50” Roku Intelligent WIFI TV’s (with approx. 25 channels through the Charter Spectrum cable application) along with a WIFI computer connection for when it's time to sit back and savor some movies or shows after a long day at the beach! Come with a Fire Stick, Apple TV, Laptop w/ HDMI cable or other such casting device if looking to ensure all of the tech amenities from home are available during your stay!

We equip each suite with its own books, games, and misc. accessories to help cover the basis for our visitors to enjoy themselves in rain or shine. Sometimes however, these items are removed from the suite and not replaced and we do not realize it (tsk tsk!). If you notice something we’ve bragged about missing please let us know!

Guest access;

The SUITE: Guests have full access to their own private SUITE (never shared) along with a respective outdoor space, patio, or balcony.

PARKING: Suites 1,2 and 3 will have access to (1) ONE parking space in the front of the home. Oversized cars may have a difficult time (lengthwise) parking without being very close to or slightly extending into the street. Any additional community parking spaces would have availability on a first come fist serve basis. We do not recommend any lot or proprietor in particular.

Neighborhood overview

Pleasure Island is a coastal barrier island in Southeastern North Carolina, USA just south of the City of Wilmington. Pleasure Island is located within Federal Point Township, in New Hanover County. The coastal resort towns of Carolina Beach and Kure Beach, as well as the annexed communities of Wilmington Beach and Hanby Beach are located on the island.

The building itself is one row away from the sea, and two rows in from the Intracoastal Waterway. The unit is set four blocks from down town Carolina Beach with its stores, activities and dining. There are fireworks during the summer every Thursday nighttime, Movies at the lake each Sunday nighttime, and local fairs around the lake each Saturday morning. Carolina Beach is a mix of friendly locals, snowbirds, and visitors all looking to hideaway the inland and enjoy the sand, surf, and sun.

Carolina Beach and the surrounding neighborhoods offer an array of sights and activities to enjoy while here. Some of these examples are (but not limited to) a subtle beach hike through Carolina Beach State Park, Fishing on the Kure Beach Pier, kayaking to one of the many islands surrounding the Intracoastal Waterway, watching canons blast during a historical reenactment at the Fort Fisher State Historic Site, or petting some Sting Rays at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. Perhaps more inviting and less “experience” is your speed? Our own local Brewery (Good Hops) along with a round of Frisbee golf may be what the doctor ordered!

Getting around

There isn’t anywhere or anything on our Island that isn’t accessible with foot power. Downtown Carolina Beach has a number of vendors (such as Pleasure Island Units @ 2 N Lake Park Blvd Carolina Beach NC 28428 (golf carts) and Tony Silvagni’s Surf School @ 107 Charlotte ave Carolina Beach NC 28428 (bicycles, paddleboards, surfboards, kayaks) for rent as an alternative to walking or driving. Taxi’s (local golf cart taxi’s) and Uber’s are also generally available for an assist when needed as well throughout the island! You can catch a Ferry to Southport in Kure Beach @ 2422 Fort Fisher Blvd S Kure Beach which leads to another ferry to Bald Head Island where NO CARS are allowed at all!

After all, you won’t catch many locals going OTB! (Over The Bridge). Everything you need is right here!

Other things to note;

•Salt Water Real Estate has partnered with the absolute most exemplary vendors our Island has to offer to help ensure visitors can spend more time appreciating themselves and less time researching! Our partners include the Tony Silvagni Surf School for professional surf lessons, bicycle, umbrella, and chair units, Salty Dog Yoga, Squared Away Cleaning and Maintenance, TNL Kleans, and Low Tide Linen Units who provides all visitors of SWRE an added 10% off. Our partners support visitors of Salt Water Real Estate with the highest caliber of local services for extremely competitive and oft discounted pricing. They all contribute to the “Salt Water” experience and we <3 them for it!

•ALL suites are non-smoking (including vaping) and a heavy cleaning/repair charge can result if not adhered to. This includes porches, decks, balconies, and walkways. Please smoke well away from any SWRE unit unless willing to risk the potential loss of deposit or more.

•Linens (sheets, towels, pillowcases, etc.) are NOT part of the suite rental. Pillows and basic comforters ARE supplied. Please refer to the linens chart supplied in the renting site description section for a unit’s bed sizes and plan in advance accordingly. We partner with “Low Tide Linens & Units” for any visitors looking to rent a linen package as opposed to bringing or buying your own. They will deliver directly into the suite in advance of your stay! Mention that you are staying with SALT WATER REAL ESTATE and receive an additional 10% off of any rentable items!

• SWRE contractual peaceful hours begin at 9:00pm EST. Town ordinance may accept more latitude with regards to noise (11:00pm) but our expectations are to help ensure all visitors, locals, and neighbors alike have an enchanting experience.

•NO BBQing on ANY decks or porches. This is a monumental fire hazard and is fineable by the town (as is removing batteries from any smoke or co2 alarms). We work extremely hard to keep all of our visitors safe, and sometimes that takes teamwork!

•Please always consider TRAVEL INSURANCE from your respective renting site or vendor to help protect your costs in case of inclement weather or last-min. travel complications (court, illness, etc.). These items are NOT returnable scenarios unless the unit itself is compromised. If that does happen, we will do our absolute most impeccable to find you alternative housing.

Money Saving Strategies

  • Many property managers and rental houses supply Southport area traveller discount magazines that feature deals, either offered individually by merchants, or through a partnership between the property manager and the business itself. Look for these guides and coupon books, because this allows travelers to experience the very same wonderful activities at a possibly considerable discounted.
  • In a position to modify your trip dates? The off-peak shoulder seasons may offer phenomenal rates on weekly rental properties.
  • Plenty of property management companies and owners offer special discounts for active and veteran men and women of the US Military, or returning vacationers to the same property. Make sure to confirm with property management company to see if your vacationing group qualifies for a discounted price.
  • Some rentals are basically catered to specific customers, whether it is downtown rentals with pier passes, city-center homes with nearby access to night life or waterfront homes that have their own kiteboarding launching areas. If there's a particular Southport atteaction that you just love, keep an eye out for rental properties that cater especially to your needs.
  • Vacation rental companies and individual rental owners generally offer their guests the option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you somewhere between 1% - 5% of the basic vacation rental price, offers travellers reimbursement of their vacation expenses for any days missed due to health emergencies or weather, and additionally ensuing extra hurricane evacuation costs or expenses, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforseen occurs (heaven forbid!).

How to Book a Vacation Home

Many people are shocked to discover the number of rental homes are located in their area of interest. With such a big selection, renters are sure to find a property which matches their expectations and spending plan.

Nearly all rental homes in Southport are privately owned and many are represented by experienced local property management companies. Property management companies leverage scale, equipment and knowledge to provide convenient operational management on behalf of the property owner..

Seasoned Southport vacationers have identified a few tips and tricks over the years when it comes to renting vacation rentals, however most newcomers will be happy to learn that many of these "strategies" are in plain sight, if you understand how to search.

Searching for and reserving the perfect vacation property:

Before you decide to book ""Sand Dollar Suites" suite 1", go through our brief collection of things to consider.

The Sooner You Start, The Better The Selection

Southport rental homes book many months (and up to a year) in advance. For the greatest selection, start your planning and search 6-12 months prior to your trip. Many families choose to start their search over Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year holiday gatherings.

Pick a Village and Time

Start by determining which specific area of Southport you want to browse, and the approximate trip dates.

How Many Bedrooms?

Establish who is joining, and how many/what particular bedroom configuration you will need. Remember that that a lot of homes advertise maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in the living area. You'll need to determine what is most appropriate for the family. Specific descriptions of bedrooms and beds are usually available on the internet. If not, communicate with the property manager before you reserve the home.

Commit to a Budget

The majority of rental homes are presented with a price range. Determine the rate for your preferred week. It may be at the top end of the range. Make sure that you get cost-sharing commitments from friends and family before reserving a costly rental. One individual in your group needs to be in charge of getting contributions and accepting responsibility for the entire rental payment at time of booking.

Make a List of "Preferences" and "Needs"

What home features is the group interested in? Do you simply desire a home with a swimming pool, hot tub or beach volleyball court? Would you like to be away from it all, or near a city setting? Are items like beach chairs, gas grills, umbrellas, carts or coolers available and included in your rental charge? Gather a list of "needs and wants" from your party to help narrow your search to the most appropriate home.

Accessibility and Special Issues to consider

Proper access could make or break a visit for the less-mobile. If wheel chair entry, elevators, pool lifts or other special devices are required, include that into your search. Nearly all vacation home listings include a list of amenities.

Go ahead and Take the Dog

Make sure to include your pets. Pet policies are different at each rental. Study descriptions thoroughly. Make certain to read descriptions and contracts carefully. Charges may apply when animals are added. If in doubt, ask the property owner and get it in writing.

Searching the Internet

. Besides Homeaway, VRBO and Tripadvisor, we suggest searching Google for "Southport local vacation rentals" for local property management companies. Local agencies often times have an exclusive assortment of rentals daily and weekly.

Negotiate

Re-read the description to ensure that the rental home has everything that you need. If something is missing, the vacation rental management company may know of comparable properties that fit your style and budget..

Some property owners will negotiate rates, and some will not. If they are hesitant to budge on a peak-season week, try getting an additional night. Off-peak season offers your best chance to negotiate a lower rate.

Study The Contract

You will have to know which services are included:

  • Utilities
  • WIFI Access
  • Phone service
  • Pool and hot tub heating
  • Pay Per View Movies
  • Daily Cleaning (If Available)
  • Trash collection
  • Maintenance (get a phone number)
  • Check in & Check Out Key Exchange
  • Parking Fees

Make sure your quote includes all taxes and fees.

Trip Insurance

Ensure that you be aware of the cancellation policy before reserving. You will probably be offered trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs somewhere between 1% - 5% of your base rental cost, provides travellers with reimbursement of their vacation costs (and subsequent rental property costs) for any days missed a result of personal medical related emergencies or storms, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as a unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas.

Complete the Booking

Once you think you've found "the one", begin the booking process. You will likely have to submit a security deposit at time of booking.

Get Contact Details

Put the property manager's contact info into your smartphone and wallet for convenient access to answers during your trip.

Good job on reserving your vacation rental! You're on the way to a fabulous vacation!

During your Stay

  • Take notes of any problems right after you arrive. If you find property damage, or if fixes are required contact the property manager right away. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and communication attempts will probably be useful.
  • If you have any ambiguity about parking, policies of the property, property access, pool operation, etc... we advise you ask the rental manager immediately. A phone call can save several hours of hassle.
  • Please be respectful of the local community. . Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a trip significantly more relaxing.
  • Ask a local. Locals can often point you in the right direction.
  • Enjoy your stay! Be sure to protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the vacation rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.

At the end of your stay

  • Always make sure that you've packed everything. Examine drawers, bath cupboards and wardrobes.
  • Once everything is out, perform a walk-through of the rental to make sure that no property damage occurred in the course of your stay. Whenever possible, do this walk-out assessment with the property owner present. If the property owner is not available, you'll want to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have an enjoyable time? Most property management companies and rental search sites permit renters to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was outstanding, they'll appreciate your recommendations. If anything went wrong, we suggest being understanding but straightforward with regards to your experience. The best property owners and managers will work hard to rectify the issue.

Learn and Improve

Hold a meeting with your travel companions. How did they feel about the rental home? If everything was perfect, next year's family vacation planning will be simple. If not, you've acquired invaluable rental search experience to help with the next search.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
