Tips for getting the perfect Southport vacation rental experience:

When to visit Oak Island & When to book:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To book the largest rental for your budget, we suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Southport area visitor guides which will include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Make a plan and choose the bestvacation home:

  • Start by having your family commit to a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. The Disgruntled Pelican: Dog-friendly, Coastal Home Near Intracoastal Waterway has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before booking your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what is best for your vacation group.
  • Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
  • Is your group looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of concerns.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
