Tricks and tips to get the best Southport vacation property experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Sunset Beach. To find the best value, shift your family's Southport vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Southport area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Start by having your family choose dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. 357 Nana's Nest by Sunset Vacations has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before booking the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to determine which bed configuration is best for your group.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental

During your stay:

  • Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Call the property manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to compel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
