About this Property

General summary:

Mermaid Crossing, Suite 4 has a stellar location to relax and relax ALL year round! This first floor unit/second row home sits just across the street from a beach access and is less than a hundred steps to fun in the sun! The suite is roughly four blocks from downtown Carolina Beach and everything that is has to offer.

Our suites offer keyless entry, to minimize person to person contact. We have implemented new protocols for the current circumstances to welcome our visitors to a safe and tidy environment. We have added a multistage system air treatment system with UV light to reduce airborne bacteria, germs, viruses, plant pollen, dust and mold pores. As a result, we no longer give linens. We want to be able to give our valued visitors with a safe memorable beach hideaway experience.

The space;

The suite is located in the heart of Carolina Beach and is within walking distance to downtown and all of its attractions. The location is a brief walk from the Carolina Beach Boardwalk, eateries, and local stores (don't forget Britt's Famous Donuts)! If you like adventures, the marina is also a few blocks away where you can take an offshore fishing trip or event boat out for a sunset sail. Camping more your thing? Come with the 4X4 and drive (and camp) on the beach at Freeman Park, located on the North End of the island. The Carolina Beach Lake is close by, hosting the Farmer’s Market every Saturday, FIREWORKS every Thursday, and summer outdoor movies on Sunday (on a generous inflatable screen in the middle of the lake!). We welcome you to sit back, relax and savor yourselves because that's exactly what the beach is for!

These suites are a mixture of the original “period” construction and old world grace, with a kiss of shabby-chic modernity and today's technology because hey, there’s got to be something for everybody! Each suite has its own distinct traits, quirks, and characteristics.

The entry to this 1 bedroom, 1 bath suite opens up into a combined kitchen with an open dining area that has a thoroughly supplied kitchen (stove+oven, refrigerator). The kitchen is outfitted will all of the basic preparing and dining silverware one can expect (plates, bowls, cups, silverware, etc.). In addition, there is a microwave, toaster, and coffee maker ready to help make yourself at home (and on Vacay!). Courtesy shower/shampoo, and conditioner are left in the bathroom of each suite as well as TP, garbage bags, dish soap, a broom, and sponge in each kitchen.

Most bedroom beds consist of a new encased 8” memory foam/cooling gel composition bed because we want all of our visitors to be peaceful when it comes time to recharge. The pull-out couches that can fit/support a memory foam pad are also accommodated with such! (Always bear in mind, although comfortable, a pull-out couch/futon for a longer-term tenant may/may not give just right support!) Remember, linens are NOT included, however, you can bring them from home with you, buy them (Wal-Mart in Wilmington), or rent them (Oceanside Linens & Units).

There are 2 intelligent TVs (with approx. 25 channels through the Charter Spectrum cable) along with an ORBI router WIFI computer connection for when it's time to sit back and savor some movies or shows after a long day at the beach! There is complimentary Netflix to watch movies. We do not give a pin for the Roku TVs so please do NOT request one. We also have some games to appreciate some family game time when the weather is bit dreary for the beach. Sometimes however, these items are removed from the suite and not replaced and we do not realize it (tsk tsk!).

If you notice something we’ve bragged about is missing please let us know!!!

The outdoor shower is located on the lower left of the building to help get that sand off of those toes!

Guest access;

Guests have full access to their own private suite (never shared) along with a respective outdoor space, patio, balcony, or yard. Each suite can vary slightly in archetype but what’s private to each guest or is a common area for all to share is effortlessly recognizable. Feel complimentary to reach out for any specific needs or clarifications! Each guest will also have access to one assigned parking space. For additional spaces, please refer to our list of parking suggestions.

Other things to note;

-ALL suites are non-smoking (including vaping) and a heavy cleaning/repair charge can result if not adhered to.

-Linens (sheets/towels) are NOT part of the suite rental. If you prefer to bring your own or rent linens, we partner with “Oceanside Linens & Units” for any visitors looking to rent a linen package (sheet sets, towels, etc.) as opposed to bringing or buying your own. Although the hyper link will be blocked by this site, a simple web search can yield their contact information. They will deliver directly into the suite in advance of your stay!

-Quiet(er) hours begin at 9:00pm EST. We host many families of all ages so we ask all our visitors to be considerate, and enjoy the heck out of yourselves!

-NO BBQ’ing on ANY decks or porches. This is a tremendous fire hazard and is fineable (along with removing smoke/Co2 alarms). We work extremely hard to keep all of our visitors safe, and sometimes that takes teamwork!

-Parking: Please refer to your welcome e-mail for specifics with regards to parking. We have one designated space that comes with each rental. OVERSIZED trucks and cars will always have tight fits on the island wherever they go (just an FYI!). For additional spaces, please refer to our local parking lot list.

-For a complete FOODIE RECOMMENDATION list, TV instructions, local Flora and Fauna, etc., please refer to the welcome binder located in each suite. Here are a few misc. additions’ we’ve been inquired about often this past summer prior to renting;

-Nearest Laundromat: Melissa’s Laundry @ 702 S Lake Park Blvd Carolina Beach NC 28428

-Nearest Fresh Seafood (prepare yourself): Blackburn Brothers Seafood @ 440 N Lake Park Blvd Carolina Beach NC 28428

-Local Additional Parking: Harbor Master Parking Lot @ 309 Carolina Beach Ave N Carolina Beach NC 28428, Alabama Meter Lot & Public Access @ 1622 S Lake Park Blvd Carolina Beach NC 28428, Macks Parking Lot @ 104 Charlotte Ave Carolina Beach NC 28428

-Please always consider TRAVEL INSURANCE from your respective renting site or vendor to help protect your $ in case of inclement weather or last min. travel complications (court, illness, etc.). These items are NOT returnable scenarios, regardless of scale unless the unit itself is compromised. If that does happen, we will do our absolute best to find you alternative housing. When advanced enough notice is supplied with regards to a cancellation request, we try and refill the suite to help a renter in need break their rental agreement. If we can, we help break said lease regardless of cancellation policy for a full refund. LIFE HAPPENS to us all. But a tough day at the beach is better than a tough day most everywhere else!-Carolina Beach Town Hall supplies, where available, beach wheel chairs that can traverse the sand without charge. Please reach out to the Recreation Center for additional information.

The neighborhood;

The building itself is one row away from the sea, and two rows in from the Intracoastal Waterway. The unit is set four blocks from downtown Carolina Beach with its stores, activities and dining. There are fireworks during the summer every Thursday nighttime, Movies at the lake each Sunday nighttime, and local fairs around the lake each Saturday morning (refer to for additional info!). Carolina Beach is a mix of friendly locals, snowbirds, and visitors all looking to hideaway the inland and enjoy the sand, surf, and ambience. We really have an marvelous community!

Carolina Beach and the surrounding neighborhood offers an array of sights and activities to enjoy while here. Some of these examples are (but not limited to) a subtle beach hike through Carolina Beach State Park, Finishing on the Kure Beach Pier, Kayaking to one of the many islands surrounding the Intracoastal Waterway, watching canons blast during a historical reenactment at the Fort Fisher State Historic Site, or petting some Sting Rays at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. This doesn’t even include the aweing scenery of Airlie Gardens, and our very own battleship (USS NC) in Wilmington! Perhaps more inviting and less “experience” is your speed. Our own local Brewery (Good Hops) along with a round of Frisbee golf may be a great time.

And between the beach and Downtown Wilmington, boy do we have FOOD, Festivals, and good times!

Getting around;

Food, dining, and a multitude of outdoor activities are all well within walking distance. Downtown Carolina Beach has a number of vendors (such as Pleasure Island Units @ 2 N Lake Park Blvd Carolina Beach NC 28428 and Tony Silvagni Surf School @ 101 Cape Fear Blvd Carolina Beach NC 28428) that offer golf carts, paddleboards, surfboards, kayaks, and bicycles for rent as an alternative to driving. Taxi’s and Uber’s are always available for an assist when needed as well throughout the island! You can catch a Ferry to Southport in Kure Beach @ 2422 Fort Fisher Blvd S Kure Beach which leads to another ferry to Bald Head Island where NO CARS are allowed!

Walk, crawl (hopefully mainly the children!), bicycle, swim, paddle, drive, Uber… you name it.

General Rental Home Tips & Tricks

Many people are surprised to discover just how many rental properties are located in their area of interest. Rental homes are gaining in popularity among vacationers, and visitors will find that the sheer number of rentals available makes it possible to find an perfect getaway to accommodate their Southport crew, from tranquil condominiums to massive event homes with several bedrooms.

Rental homes are usually owner operated or managed by rental management companies. Property management companies leverage scale, staff and working experience to provide effortless operational management on behalf of the owner..

Below are some tips and suggestions to help you understand the rental search and reservation process.

Where to find and book the best vacation home:

Before you start to book "Mermaid Crossing Suite 4", examine our short collection of issues to consider.

Begin Your Search Early

Southport rentals are reserved months (and up to a year) in advance. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months in advance is usually recommended, when possible. Holiday gatherings are a popular time for family groups to plot their Summer family vacations..

Select your Area and Travel Week

Start by figuring out which specific area of Southport you would like to visit, and the approximate trip dates.

Choosing an Properly-Sized Rental

Take a head count. How many beds and bedrooms will you be needing? Bear in mind that most rental homes advertise maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in the family room. It is important to figure out what is suitable for the party. Specific descriptions of bedrooms and beds are typically available on the internet. If not, communicate with the property manager before you book.

Decide on Your Budget

Many rental homes are advertised with a price range. Determine the cost for your preferred stay. It may be at the top end of the range. If a few groups or loved ones are sharing the cost, ensure each group knows their responsibilities and has agreed to a maximum they are willing to contribute. One individual in your group must be in charge of getting repayments and accepting responsibility for the entire rental cost at time of booking.

Rental Home Amenities

What amenities is the family searching for? Is a screened deck a requirement? Do you desire to be away from it all, or close to civilization? Are extras like beach chairs, grills, beach umbrellas, beach carts or coolers at your disposal and included in your rental home rate? Make a list of priority amenities to guide narrow your search.

Accessibility and Special Factors to consider

Suitable accessibility could make or ruin a trip for the less-mobile. Make sure to remember and inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and special equipment requirements..

Take the Dog

Remember to include your pets. Animal friends are welcome at a number of rental homes, but guidelines can vary. Ensure that you study agreements and contracts carefully. Extra fees or costs may be applied to your contract. Ask questions *before* you reserve!

Searching the Internet

A number of internet resources exist to match clients with rental home owners.. In addition to Homeaway, VRBO and Tripadvisor, we recommend searching Google for "Southport local rental homes" for local vacation rental management companies. Apart from offering distinctive rental properties, local companies provide you with top-notch service..

Negotiate the Price

When you've identified the rentalhome of your dreams, make sure your trip dates are available.

While not true for all rental properties, many owners and property managers will negotiate rates. If the price isn't negotiable, the number of nights might be. Your easiest opportunity for a lower rate will be shifting to a less desirable week.

Read through the Entire Contract

Read the entire contract and be sure you fully understand who is liable for:

  • Power bills
  • Internet
  • Long Distance Calls
  • Pool Heating
  • Pay Per View Movies
  • Daily Cleaning (If Available)
  • Trash collection
  • Maintenance policies
  • Key exchange
  • Parking Fees

Make sure your quote includes all taxes and fees.

Cancellation Policies

Ensure you be aware of the cancellation policy prior to booking. Vacation rental management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests the option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which typically costs between 1% - 5% of your standard rental home cost, provides guests with reimbursement of their vacation costs (and subsequent rental costs) for any days missed due to personal medical emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as a unforeseen motel stay or additional gas.

Complete the Reservation

When you think you've found "the one", start the booking process. You'll probably have to submit a security deposit at time of booking.

Know Who to Call

Put the property manager's contact info into your phone and wallet for easy access to answers during your stay.

Good job on reserving your rental! You're on the right path to a fabulous vacation!

During your Stay

  • Take notes of any damage immediately after you arrive. If you discover problems, or if repairs are required call the property manager straight away.
  • You may need instructions for a fireplace, TV or spa. Get in touch with your rental manager. They are there to assist. A quick phone call avoids many hassles.
  • Remember to respect your neighbors. Many times, adjacent residences are filled by permanent residents. Remember the golden rule and treat others the same way you'd like to be treated by vacationers next to your primary residence.
  • Ask a local. Local people are a great source of tips. Who better to ask where to order the best chicken wings, have a great date night, or the best places for wildlife?
  • Make sure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, exactly like you would in your own home.

Check Out Time

  • Double-check every space of the rental home to make certain that you've packed all possessions.
  • Make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for damage. Whenever possible, do this walk-out review with the property owner present. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a blast? Nearly all vacation rental sites request feedback after your stay . Rental owners and rental managers will thank you for favorable recommendations. If something was wrong and they did not fix it in a practical manner, or if the property was not as described, you may want to make it a point as part of your critique.

Learn and Improve

Hold a debrief with your family. Does everyone want to re-book next year? Maybe everything ended up being wonderful and you are happy to re-book the same property for your next vacation. If not, you have acquired invaluable experience that can help with another search.

Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
