Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:

Getting the most from your budget:

  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Booking in Fall or Spring is a great way to save on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.

How to choose the perfect vacation home in the Southport area:

  • Start by choosing your trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Atlantic Delight: Dog-friendly Home in Quiet Area Within a Few Blocks of Beach has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before you book your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is best for your group.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's a certain Southport beach you simply love, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

During your stay:

  • Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a great time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
