How to book the best Oak Island rental experience:

Sticking to a spending plan:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Oak Island. To get the most suitable rental home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Southport area visitor guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and choose a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Apt Not: Comfortable, Open Home One Block from Beach with Screened Porch has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before booking the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.

More tips for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
  • Upon arrival, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
