Vacation rental home tips:

How to get the best rental value:

  • The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked early. Booking your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Oak Island. To book the largest vacation home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Southport area visitor guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning, selecting, and booking your prefect Southport vacation home:

  • Start by having your family select the best dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Just 3 Blocks from the beach! Exceptional Water\/Marsh View From Deck has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If not, email the property owner before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.

During your stay:

  • Add the property manager's information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
  • At Check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a terrific time? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches. See for yourself by scanning the QR code and call Victory Beach Vacations at 910.458.0868 to book your Cape Fear getaway. Start making your memories today! —Grace Silipigni
