Tricks and tips for getting the best rental experience:

Getting the most from your rental budget:

  • Reserve your Southport vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Southport visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • First and foremost, have your family commit to vacation dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Lovely Canal Front Beach Cottage with Boat Dock and ICW Access has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you book the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to drive future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
