About the Area

Located near the beach, this vacation home is in South Beach, a neighborhood in Bald Head Island. Bald Head Island Lighthouse and Oak Island Lighthouse are local landmarks, and some of the area's activities can be experienced at The Clubs at St. James and Southport Marina. North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport and Bald Head Island Information Center are also worth visiting. Be sure to check out the area's animals with activities such as game walks and birdwatching.

Get the most from your spending budget:

• Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
• June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Book your rental property in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
• Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
• Booking websites often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. During your stay:

• Add the property manager's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
• Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of problems.
• Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
• Record any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
• Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
• Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
• Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
• Walk through the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
• Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to compel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
