Sticking to your rental budget:

  • Summertime is high season in the Southport area. To get the best value, change your family's Southport trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.

Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses.   • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a great stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words.
