How to find the best Oak Island vacation property experience:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • To book the largest rental home within budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies supply Southport area visitors guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to pick the perfect vacation rental:

  • Choose vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Ocean Views! 8 bed. Sleeps 14. Private Pool. Elevator. Family Friendly has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property manager before you book the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
  • Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or could be applied to your invoice.

Advice for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • To make sure damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of problems.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
