Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation rental experience:

Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • To get the most suitable rental home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local Southport area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Planning, selecting, and booking a perfectrental home:

  • To start, have your family choose trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Oceanside Apartment in the 'Heart of the Beach' Ground Level has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, call the host before you reserve the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
