Strategies for getting the perfect Oak Island vacation home experience:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • To find the most suitable rental home within budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Southport area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Finding the perfect rental home:

  • Begin by selecting a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. On Turtle Time: Modern Oceanfront Home Ideal for Two Couples or Small Families has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before reserving the home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is right for your vacation.
  • Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

Tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make certain damages aren't linked to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. text the host immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many issues.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a excellent time? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
