Tricks and tips to get the best vacation home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • In the Southport area, The sooner your group can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Summer is high season in Wilmington. To book the most suitable rental within your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Some property management companies offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Southport area visitor guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Finding the perfect vacation rental in the Southport area:

  • Select your dates and spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Relaxing ocean cottage on Figure Eight Island has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you book your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your group.
  • If your family is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

Additional considerations:

  • We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Upon arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to stimulate new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
