Tips to get the best Southport rental home experience:

Get the most from your spending budget:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the best value, change your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local Southport area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by having your family choose date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. SL1501U: Starfish Cottage Upper: Oceanfront, Views, Dog Friendly has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what is suitable for your vacation group.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More tips for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of issues.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
  • Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
