Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

Sticking to your rental home budget:

  • Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the largest rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Southport visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides have discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

How to choose the best vacation rental in the Southport area:

  • Select your vacation week and budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Station One - 5C Stewart-Oceanfront condo with community pool, tennis, beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If not, email the property management company before booking the property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to compel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
