Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Find your perfect rental:

  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the best value, try changing your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Often, property management companies supply Southport area visitor guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Choosing the best vacation rental:

  • Begin by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Station One - 7C Bowers - Oceanfront condo with community pool, tennis, beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you book your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your group.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.
  • Does your group require specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of concerns.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Upon arrival, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a excellent stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
