How to find the best Southport vacation rental experience:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • Summertime is high season in Oak Island. To find the best value, consider changing your family's Southport vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • In the Southport area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Booking websites often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Southport visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain deals for local shops and restaurants.

Filter your search:

  • Select a group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Watts Landing: Nautical Themed Home with Ocean Views has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property owner before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your family.
  • If there's an individual Southport beach you crave, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.

During your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
