Tips and Tricks for getting the best Southport vacation home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • In the Southport area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • Summer is high season in the Southport area. Book your vacation home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Southport area visitor guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to choose the perfect rental in Oak Island:

  • First and foremost, have your family select dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Friendship Lodge: Charming Oceanview home with two separate sleeping areas - per has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before booking the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
  • If there's an individual Southport attraction you long to visit, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

More tips for your stay:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of problems.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, note any problem areas during arrival. Make contact with the rental manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
