Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Southport vacation property experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Southport area visitors guides that include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Make a plan and pick the bestrental home:

  • Start by choosing vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Custom, prestigious Southern Living Home on BHI! has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If not, email or call the property owner before you book your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Know before you go:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
