Tips and Tricks to get the best Oak Island rental experience:

When to book a Southport rental & When to go:

  • In the Southport area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • To find the best value, try changing your family's Southport vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, , and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Finding the best vacation home:

  • Start by choosing vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Something Beachy: Spacious Condo in the Heart of Oak Island has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property management company before you book the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • If your group is bringing pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

More considerations:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many difficulties.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property a final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
