Tricks and tips to get the best vacation rental experience:

Sticking to your rental home budget:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the Southport area. To book the largest vacation home for your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Southport visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

How to select the best vacation rental in the Southport area:

  • Choose dates and budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Tiny Home Paradise has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is normally available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before booking the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual Southport destination you simply love, keep an eye out for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • To make certain no damages are linked to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas during check in. E-mail the host right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be respectful. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a fantastic stay? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
