Booking the best Oak Island vacation property experience:

Getting the most from your rental budget:

  • Summer is high season in Oak Island. Booking your vacation home in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes.
  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Southport visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guides contain money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Make a plan and choose your prefectrental:

  • Start by choosing your vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. 4BR home on the NE side w\/ pool has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before reserving your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation family.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges might be applied to your contract.

Have a great stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
  • To make sure no damages are linked to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas upon check in. text the property manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a fantastic time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
