Vacation rental booking tips:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • In the Southport area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Summertime is high season in Carolina Beach. To get the best value, try shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Southport area visitor guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • First, have your family agree to a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. A Beach Dream (1-Bedroom Villa) by RedAwning has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or could be applied to your agreement.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking

Know before you go:

  • Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to drive more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
