Tips to get the best Southport vacation rental experience:

Get the most from your rental home budget:

  • Summertime is high season in the Southport area. To get the best value, try changing your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • In the Southport area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local Southport visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby tours and attractions.

How to choose the perfect vacation rental in the Southport area:

  • Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Nothing Beats Ocean Front! - Great Views - Direct beach access - Many updates has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Southport vacation rental search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available online. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before reserving the property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your group.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
  • At departure, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
