Booking the best Oak Island vacation property experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summer is high season in the Southport area. To get the best value, shift your family's Southport vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • In the Southport area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Southport area visitor guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by having your family select a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Reef Runner has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible online. If not, reach out to the property management company before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or applied to your agreement.

Have a great stay:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • At Check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Keep your property safe!
  • At departure, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to compel future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
