Tricks and tips to get the perfect Oak Island rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • In the Southport area, The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Summer is high season in Oak Island. To find the best value, change your family's Southport vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Southport visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations and attractions.

How to choose the best vacation rental in the Southport area:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Sandpiper’s Nest. 5 minute walk to the beach! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking pages. If not, call the property management company before booking the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
  • If there's a particular Southport beach you crave, browse rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .

Advice for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your .
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • During arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a excellent time? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
