Tricks and tips to get the best Southport rental home experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Summer time is high season in the Southport area. Reserve your Southport rental property in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

Make a plan and choose the best Southport rental home:

  • Choose vacation week and budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Coastal canal-front gem with multiple decks, private dock, grill, ac, & WiFi has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking websites. If not, email the property owner before booking your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or costs applied to your contract.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great feedback to propel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
