Tips to get the best vacation rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Book your vacation home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Many property management companies supply Southport area visitor guides that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Selecting the perfect vacation home in Oak Island:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Family-Friendly Oak Island Beach House! 8min walk to the beach! has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
  • Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if there is a dispute.
  • Respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property a final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
