Unwind and relax this summer at Marsh Mellow! This 4-bedroom, 3 1/2 bath home is available for rent for the first time. Located at the end of Leeward Court, this home features some of the best vistas on Bald Head Island.

The main home features three second-floor bedrooms, including a master suite with a king bed, soaking tub and separate shower, and a terrace overlooking the marsh and creek. The guest room with a queen bed shares a bathroom off the hallway with the kids' bedroom, which has two twin beds (or a pullout queen couch bed if your guests prefer to sleep on that). The second floor also has a separate office, with a great view of Old Baldy. On the first floor, appreciate an open floor plan with two sitting areas, a dining area, seating at the kitchen bar, and sliding glass doors that open onto the deck. The living area is filled with books and a wide assortment of games and puzzles for your family and friends to savor. The kitchen is completely supplied with everything you will need for your week at Marsh Mellow. The first floor also has a full laundry room and a half bath.

In addition to the main home, the crofter over the garage is freshly finished, with a queen bed, shower, separate toilet, modest kitchenette, and vistas that make you feel like you're floating above the creek. If you prefer an outdoor shower, that's available too, located underneath the crofter in the yard. In the garage, you'll find two 4-passenger golf carts, along with beach chairs, sand toys, body boards, and three bicycles, accepting you to enjoy outdoor life on the island. You can effortlessly rent additional bicycles or equipment for water sports on the creek at the close by Riverside Adventure Company.

Speaking of the outdoors, Marsh Mellow has a splendid front porch that is typically shaded and features a bench, two chairs and a hammock (our kids appreciate the hammock). The yard is fenced in, and the enormous deck off the side of the home is what makes the outdoor area really special. With separate sitting and dining areas (including a new dining table and chairs not featured in the photos), along with an outdoor grille, it is the ideal spot to enjoy time with family and friends, taking in the beauty all around you. If you sit on Marsh Mellow's deck during the day, you'll see ibis, herons, pelicans and sometimes even dolphins frolic in the marsh. At nighttime enjoy the view of Old Baldy lit up as well as a spectacular view of the nighttime sky.

A few additional notes:
*There is no smoking anywhere in or around the property. Please help us maintain a smoke-complimentary environment.

*Unfortunately, we cannot allow family pets. We sometimes travel to Bald Head Island with our three cats, and we do not want any other pets in the home. (For people with cat allergies, we clean the home thoroughly, but be aware that there are sometimes feline visitors at the home when we're there ourselves.)

*High speed internet and Wifi are included. The home has a Sonos One music speaker (kitchen) and three TVs (1st floor living room, 2nd floor kids' bedroom, Crofter), each with a streaming device (Roku or Amazon Fire Stick). Subscriptions to streaming services not supplied.

*Membership to the Bald Head Island Club is not included in the base rental rate. Guest temporary membership may be available for separate purchase. Contact the Bald Head Island Club directly at (910) 457-7300. Guest memberships are limited this summer, so we can't guarantee that a guest membership will be available for your rental week.

*A guest Shoals membership is not available at Marsh Mellow.

*Reservations for the tram from the ferry book up early each summer. The good news is that we often avoid using the tram, choosing instead to walk to Marsh Mellow, then taking one of the golf carts back to the ferry to pick up our suitcases. Feel complimentary to reserve a tram if that's better for you and your guests.

*By booking the property, you accept the terms of the supplied rental agreement.

If you have any questions about amenities, appliances and supplies in the home, or anything else related to your trip, please contact us before you travel to Bald Head Island. We want to make sure you have a great time and feel at home at Marsh Mellow.

Strategies to get the perfect rental home experience:

When to visit Bald Head Island & When to book:

  • Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the best rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to choose the perfect vacation rental:

  • Begin by selecting your vacation dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Gorgeous Marsh Views! has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Southport vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Does your family require unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs applied to your invoice.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • To make certain damages aren't attributed to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during check in. text the host right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
  • Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
