Vacation rental tips and tricks:

When to visit & When to book:

  • The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Sunset Beach. To book the most suitable rental for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Southport area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Planning, picking, and booking a perfectrental:

  • Select a group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Saw Mill Sunset Beach, NC has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before booking the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or applied to your contract.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Additional considerations:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Upon arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to drive future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
